Goal: The aim of this first workshop is to identify research synergies
and collaborative opportunities among faculty at New England and
Israeli universities as well as with end users and industry leaders
active in the homeland security area. The workshop will consist of
selected research presentations, group discussions, and sessions aimed
at defining and planning collaborative efforts on promising
demonstration projects. Participants will be asked to contribute to
these demonstration projects in the months following the first
workshop, moving the projects from white papers to prototype systems.
The results of these efforts will be presented at a second workshop to
be held in Amherst in February 2005. Pursuit of follow-on research
and/or commercialization opportunities is the major objective of the
second workshop. An optional associated workshop on technology
commercialization, "Invention to Venture", will be held the day
