Massachusetts
is internationally recognized as a leader in higher education
and advanced research in the sciences with over 120 universities and
many of the world's leading leading research hospitals and
institutes.
The Commonwealth has long been a hub of commercial
development of technology in electronics, software, life sciences,
and information technology. The state has pioneered
outstanding programs to stimulate innovative research and commercial
translation, including recent initiatives such as the Massachusetts
Technology Transfer Center (MTTC), the Massachusetts Life
Sciences Center, and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. The region
also has
deep educational and non-profit entrepreneur support programs, many of
which have been replicated in other regions.
MassEntrepreneurship 2009 will bring together the
leadership of the entrepreneurial community
in higher education, research, government, and venture and economic
development to discuss best practices in two areas that are key to
entrepreneurial start-up support in the Commonwealth.
The first will
consider best practices in mentoring - who are the best mentors, how
are they recruited and trained, and what should a mentees expectations
be. The second panel will consider the support of young
entrepreneurs. According to a recent report from Babson College,
compared to the national average, early stage entrepreneurs in
Massachusetts tend to be older than the national average. This
panel will focus on programs that have been established specifically to
foster and support younger entrepreneurs. VIEW AGENDA
In addition, leading Massachusetts
politicians will discuss the state of the economy and
entrepreneurship in the Commonwealth. VIEW SPEAKER BIOS
