Steve Cook, Partner of Bullivant, Houser & Bailey

Mr. Cook has represented participants in the health care industry, including hospitals, physicians, dentists, and health care industry consultants, in connection with a variety of legal matters. He has also worked extensively in the electric utility industry, including drafting and negotiating power plant and transmission line operating agreements and long-term power supply agreements, and representing a client in its relationship with the Bonneville Power Administration.

Mr. Cook has also drafted and negotiated independent contractor and consulting agreements, employment agreements, "phantom stock" and other bonus or incentive agreements with employees. He regularly works with trademarks and other intellectual property issues. He prepares confidentiality, non-competition, and license agreements, and advises both claimants and defendants with regard to infringement issues.

Regina Hauser, Executive Director of Oregon Natural Step Network

Regina Hauser is the Executive Director of the Oregon Natural Step Network, a membership organization established to support businesses, institutions and community organizations interested in adopting The Natural Step framework for sustainability.

The Natural Step offers a model for businesses to improve profitability while forging meaningful environmental innovations.

Prior to her assuming this position, she practiced law and was a
shareholder with Schwabe Williamson Wyatt, where she spent 16-years specializing in intellectual property and employment law.

Regina received her Bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Washington and her law degree at Santa Clara University. She has served as a member of numerous community Boards, including SalmonSafe.

Angela Jackson, President of Jackson Group, LLC

Angela Jackson is an active angel investor and coach to emerging companies and entrepreneurs.

Her background is in marketing/sales, strategy, fundraising and leadership. She is currently an investor in Oregon Angel Fund and co-chair of Angel Oregon's Consumer/Active Lifestyle investment track and serves on the company selection committee for Women's Investment Network.

Angela also advises nonprofit/social entrepreneurs and recently was an "Ask the Expert" consultant to Craigslist Foundation social entrepreneurs in New York. She is an advisor/investor with Mercy Corps' Phoenix Fund, which helps microenterprises in third world areas succeed. Growing up in a family culture of entrepreneurship and philanthropy, she co-founded Social Venture Partners Portland with other area investors in 2001 and has launched numerous non-profit and for-profit enterprises.

She held various sales/marketing roles at Auctionpay through Series A and B rounds, a period of rapid growth which earned it numerous awards including a spot on Inc. Magazine 500 fastest growing companies list. Angela loves working with people to help accelerate the success of "the big idea" and is a proud Mom to two budding entrepreneurs, ages 11 and 15.

Dick Luebke, Managing Partner of Emergent

Dick recently joined Emergent Resources as a Managing Partner, a newly formed early stage, hands on VC firm. Brings many years as an engineering manager, investor and tech company consultant.

He is the principal behind Sunriver Ventures, which invests selectively in software and Internet Service startups based in the Pacific Northwest with a portfolio that includes Eleven Wireless, iovation, SplashCast, Platial, Values of n, Lumeno.us, and m-six.

The technology and investment companies Dick has worked at include Whole Security, Rule Space, Oracle, Ensemble Information Systems, Tandem Computers, Stratus Computer, Intel, and Honeywell Information Systems. He has a BSEE from Purdue and an MSEE from Arizona State.

Dan Lulich, Managing Partner of Emergent

Dan Lulich recently joined Emergent Resources as a partner. Emergent is a newly formed, early stage, VC fund.

Prior to joining Emergent, Dan was responsible for the technology strategy and development for iovation. Dan's 25-year plus career has been focused on various aspects of corporate security and consumer safety including extensive experience in pattern recognition technology development.

Dan was the Executive Director of Safety, Security and Privacy at AOL, a division of Time Warner. At AOL, Dan led member safety technology initiatives including anti-virus, firewall, parental controls, anti-spyware, anti-spam, anti-phishing and member authentication technologies to protect member transactions.
Dan has held senior executive positions for security industry leaders including RuleSpace, WholeSecurity (now Symantec) and Adaptive Solutions.

Dan holds a B.A. in psychology and philosophy from Portland State University and an M.S. in computer science and computer engineering from the Oregon Graduate Institute (currently Oregon Health Sciences University).

Dennis Powers, Founder and President of Cornerstone Management

Currently the Managing Partner of Cornerstone Management Resources. CMR is a successful consulting firm focusing on all aspects of business development and revenue acceleration for emerging and mid-market companies. He has successfully completed numerous projects involving strategic planning, business plan creation, sales channel development, marketing communication programs, merger/acquisitions and assistance in raising early stage funding. Mr. Powers is also an Executive in Residence at the Open Technology Business Center, a leading incubator in Oregon, Chair of the Portland Angel Network, and an active angel investor.

Before founding Cornerstone Management Resources, Mr. Powers was the vice president of marketing and sales at Merix Corporation, a leading supplier of electronic interconnect systems. During his tenure the company completed a successful public offering and grew the company over 200%. He actively participated in the corporate team responsible for several successful M&A transactions.

Prior to Merix, Dennis held senior management positions with Flir Systems and TriQuint Semiconductor. His early career involved roles in engineering, product marketing, and sales at Westinghouse and Thorson Company.

Dennis holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University and a master's of science in the management of science and technology from the Oregon Graduate Institute.

With more than 35 years experience in sales, marketing, general management and business development, Mr. Powers is well equipped to provide a wide range of assistance to early stage and mid-market companies.

Renee Rothauge, Partner of Bullivant, Houser & Bailey

Renée Rothauge is a Pacific Northwest trial attorney specializing in intellectual property and complex business disputes. She is the chair of the firm's intellectual property group. Ms. Rothauge recently has defended high-tech companies and retailers in patent troll (infringement) litigation in several federal districts in the United States, as well as pursued related indemnity claims.

In 2006 and 2007, Chambers USA named her one of Oregon's top commercial litigators having "come to the attention of peers and clients during a number of large scale jury trials." Ms. Rothauge has tried multimillion dollar cases to verdict for DOW AgroSciences (a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Co.), Asiana Airlines (a subsidiary of the Kumho Tire Group) and other Pacific Northwest businesses.

She serves on the Executive Committee for Oregon State Bar's Business Litigation and Computer/Internet Law sections. Ms. Rothauge carries an AV designation by Martindale Hubbell and was recognized as an Oregon Super Lawyer in intellectual property litigation. Carl Schwedler's practice includes counseling clients on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, development of patent portfolios, patent litigation, patent interference, trademark opposition, and oversight of European patents and oppositions. His patent experience includes negotiating and drafting license and research agreements, technology evaluation and assessment of third party patents relating to fermentation technologies, biomaterials and biopharmaceuticals, as well as various gene discovery technologies.

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Schwedler served as general, intellectual property and patent counsel to Calgene, where he developed an extensive intellectual property portfolio relating to the company's expression and gene discovery technologies. Additionally, he provided legal counsel to various Calgene subsidiaries, including produce and seed companies.

Kathryn Shimabukuro, President of KS Consulting

Kathryn Shimabukuro currently works with seed stage and early start-up entrepreneurs. Her focus is helping founders prepare to raise capital, presenting to angel investors, sales and marketing plan development and financial projections. She is currently seeking her next start-up opportunity.

Prior to contracting Kathryn worked at a start-up company to develop and manage their strategic partnerships. Her responsibilities were expanded within four months to include Sales and Marketing. While managing the sales and marketing group, Kathryn lead the team to re-position the company product and brought it to market using a start-up marketing budget and viral marketing tactics.

Before embarking into the entrepreneurial world, Kathryn spent 3 years working for a big four accounting firm to manage the marketing team for 6 offices throughout the Pacific Northwest. Responsibilities included strategic planning for the office, marketing strategy, managing the marketing team and budget, hiring/firing and training marketing employees as well as managing the sales activities of the partners throughout the territory. Before that she spent 15 years working in the financial services industry as an investment representative, business development executive and relationship manager for high net worth individuals. Activities included financial analysis and planning, investment presentations and sales, developing business relationships and area markets.

Kathryn spends time volunteering for the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network. She is the founder of the Women's Investment Network, served as Program Chair for the Portland Angel Network and has served on the board of directors as Board Chair.

Phil Weilerstein, Executive Director of NCIIA

Phil Weilerstein, Executive Director, began his career as an entrepreneur as a student at the University of Massachusetts. He and a team including his advisor, launched a start-up biotech company which ultimately went public. This experience, coupled with a lifelong passion for entrepreneurship, led to his work with the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance.

Phil's tenure at the NCIIA is marked by his skill for network-building and expert leverage of resources. He has a special talent for seeking out gifted educators and other important contributors and putting them to work for the betterment of invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship education in the U.S. and worldwide. As an entrepreneur in a not-for-profit organization, he has grown the NCIIA from a grassroots group of enthusiastic faculty to a nationally known and in-demand knowledge base and resource center. Phil also serves as the Chair of the Entrepreneurship Division of the American Society of Engineering Education.

Justin Yuen, President of fmyi

Justin Yuen is President of fmyi [for my innovation], a collaboration software firm with a focus on sustainability.

Before launching the fmyi, Justin was a Senior Manager in Corporate Sustainable Development at Nike, Inc. His accomplishments included creating innovative organizational change programs, designing collaboration tools, building the business case for sustainability, and managing global employee training. Prior to that, Justin was Nike's head of Quality in Footwear Product Marketing for the Europe/Middle East/Africa region in the Netherlands.

Justin is currently Chair of the City of Portland/Multnomah County's Sustainable Development Commission and on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Natural Step Network and the Northwest Earth Institute. Formerly he was on the Advisory Boards of Portland State University's Implementing Sustainability Program, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, and the University of Michigan's Erb Institute For Global Sustainable Business. Justin has a degree in International Studies from The Johns Hopkins University and attended the Columbia Business School Executive Education program.
